A family-run food business in Pembrokeshire has taken one of the top honours at the 2026 Great Taste Awards after Fire and Ice was named the winner of the Golden Fork from Wales for its Passion Fruit Sorbet.
The Narberth-based producer received the award at the Great Taste Golden Fork ceremony at Battersea Arts Centre in London on September 15.
The result follows the announcement in July that the sorbet had received a three-star Great Taste award, putting it among the highest-rated products in this year's competition and earning it a place on the shortlist for the Welsh Golden Fork.
Three Welsh products shortlisted
Fire and Ice's sorbet was one of three Welsh products competing for the regional award.
The other finalists were Hindwell Farm Meats' 100% Grass-fed Leg of Welsh Lamb from Presteigne in Powys and Brecon-based Kursat's Enchilada Paste.
The Golden Fork from Wales is sponsored by Food & Drink Wales and is selected from Welsh products that have already achieved the three-star Great Taste rating.
This year's judging process began with more than 15,000 products entered into Great Taste from around the world. Just 306 products received three stars, before a further judging process was used to determine the Golden Fork finalists and winners.
From three stars to Golden Fork winner
Fire and Ice's success therefore represents recognition at several stages of the competition.
The Passion Fruit Sorbet first secured the three-star rating before progressing to the Golden Fork from Wales shortlist and ultimately taking the Welsh title.
The Guild of Fine Food's product directory lists Fire and Ice in Narberth, Pembrokeshire, and identifies the Passion Fruit Sorbet as the company's 2026 Welsh Golden Fork entry.
Sorbet and gelato made in Narberth
Fire and Ice has been producing its own sorbets and gelato alongside its retail business in Narberth.
According to the company's website, it was established in 2011 and produces its sorbets in a dedicated sorbet laboratory at the back of its shop on St James Street.
The business says its sorbets are dairy-free and vegan-friendly, while its gelato is made using Welsh organic milk and Welsh organic double cream.
The company has previously enjoyed success at the Great Taste Awards. Fire and Ice says it has won 14 Great Taste awards since 2013, including a three-star award for its Blackcurrant Sorbet in 2018.
The latest award adds another national accolade to that record, but the significance of the 2026 result goes beyond the initial three-star recognition.
How Great Taste judging works
The Golden Fork awards bring together the highest-rated products from the Great Taste competition, with regional winners selected across several countries and regions.
Fire and Ice's Passion Fruit Sorbet was therefore competing not simply against other Welsh products, but against products that had already passed the competition's highest three-star threshold.
The Guild of Fine Food's judging process involves products being assessed without their branding and packaging, with judges considering taste alongside factors including appearance, aroma, texture and mouthfeel. More than 800 industry experts were involved in this year's judging process.
The Welsh award was one of several Golden Fork titles presented at the London ceremony. The overall Great Taste 2026 Supreme Champion was awarded to Entrepeñas for its Wagyu Beef Ham from Spain, while other regional Golden Fork winners included producers from England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, Ireland, Spain, Greece, Italy and elsewhere.
What the award means for Fire and Ice
For Fire and Ice, the Welsh title provides the latest recognition for a business that has developed a specialist range of sorbets alongside its Narberth shop and wider drinks retail operation.
The company describes itself as a small family business and has continued to experiment with different sorbet flavours, including fruit-based and alcohol-infused varieties.
The Passion Fruit Sorbet's journey from a three-star Great Taste entry to Welsh Golden Fork winner makes it one of the most highly recognised Welsh food products in this year's competition.
It also gives Pembrokeshire another nationally recognised food product to add to Wales' growing list of award-winning producers.
