Christmas markets offer a chance to discover Welsh food and drink, meet independent makers and find something different for the festive table. From farmhouse cheese and preserves to chocolate, cakes and locally made drinks, they can be a useful starting point for anyone hoping to support Welsh producers with their Christmas shopping.
This guide highlights a selection of Christmas markets, winter fairs and seasonal artisan markets taking place across Wales in 2026. It is not a comprehensive list of every event in the country. Smaller community markets are often announced through local councils, town centres, community groups and social media, so check listings in your own area as well as the events below. Dates and arrangements can change, and visitors should confirm details with organisers before travelling.

North Wales
North Wales has a mix of small indoor artisan fairs, producer-led food markets and larger festive events. For a food-focused visit, Bodnant Welsh Food, the Snowdonia producers' market and Portmeirion stand out because local or Welsh-made products are central to their programmes.

Separate from Bodnant's regular artisan market dates, the Christmas Farmers Market is advertised specifically around local producers and seasonal food. It is one of the strongest matches for readers looking for Welsh ingredients, edible gifts and something special for their Christmas table.
Bodnant also lists Christmas activities on the same day, so confirm opening arrangements and any booking requirements directly with the venue.

The fair is held throughout the village. Tickets are sold on the day, and the organiser recommends allowing extra time for arrival; a free shuttle bus runs from Porthmadog during the event.

Cardiff and South East Wales
Cardiff has two central Christmas markets in November, while nearby towns in Caerphilly County Borough host shorter fairs where food and drink stalls sit alongside independent shops and craft traders. The smaller markets are worth considering if you want to shop locally without travelling into the capital.

Date | 12 November–23 December 2026 |
|---|---|
Location | St John Street, Working Street, Trinity Street and Hills Street, Cardiff |
Food and drink | Seasonal food, drinks and products from independent makers |
Cardiff's long-running Christmas Market is spread across the pedestrianised city centre. Organised by Craft*Folk, it mixes handmade gifts with seasonal food and drink traders, making it one of the more convenient places to browse independent businesses while visiting the capital.
For readers looking specifically for Welsh food gifts, check the exhibitor list before travelling. The organisers publish individual traders' dates, and not every stall takes part for the full six weeks. The market opens 10am–6pm Monday to Saturday, 10am–5pm Sunday, with later trading on Thursdays in December.

The Victorian-themed market is a separate, shorter event on Queen Street, opening during the first weekend of Cardiff's main Christmas Market. It combines independent traders, decorated stalls, entertainment and seasonal food.
Because the two Cardiff markets run at the same time on 12–15 November, visitors can explore both in one city-centre trip. The organisers have not yet confirmed a complete food-trader list, so do not assume particular Welsh products will be available.

Mid Wales
Mid Wales has two particularly useful stops for seasonal food shopping: the markets in Hay-on-Wye and the Royal Welsh Winter Fair near Builth Wells. These events range from small-town street food and independent makers to a large agricultural fair with a dedicated Welsh food and drink offering.

|---|---|
Location | Hay-on-Wye town centre, Powys |
Food and drink | Street food and independent traders; individual Welsh food producers to be confirmed |
This is a dedicated two-day Winter Weekend Market held alongside the Hay Festival’s winter programme, rather than simply a general November market. Hay Markets says the town square will host street-food traders, independent makers and a vintage market during the festival weekend.
It is a good choice for combining seasonal shopping with a visit to Hay-on-Wye’s bookshops and independent businesses. The organiser has confirmed the dates, but has not published a final list of Welsh food and drink stallholders, so check updates before travelling for a specific producer.

The separate Gwledd | Feast area brings together local street food, artisan producers and live entertainment.
This is a large, ticketed agricultural event rather than a traditional town-square market. Advance tickets are available from the organiser, and the showground advertises on-site parking. Check the official programme for final exhibitor details and visit information.

West Wales and Pembrokeshire
West Wales has some of the strongest food-led Christmas fairs in this guide, particularly at historic venues and gardens. Pembrokeshire, Carmarthenshire and Ceredigion all have events with confirmed 2026 dates. Food and drink | Food stalls and seasonal refreshments; specific Welsh producers not yet listed |

Where to find Welsh food and drink
If Welsh food is the main reason for your Christmas market visit, start with events that explicitly promote regional producers or provide dedicated food-shopping areas. A festive setting alone does not guarantee that every stall sells Welsh-made products. These are the clearest food-focused choices from the confirmed 2026 dates above.
Food-focused Christmas markets and winter fairs
Event and 2026 date | Why choose it for Welsh food and drink? | Before you go |
|---|---|---|
Royal Welsh Winter Fair, Builth Wells 30 November–1 December | Dedicated Food Hall highlighting Welsh producers, plus Gwledd | Feast for local street food and artisan drinks. | A large, ticketed show rather than a traditional high-street market. |
Bodnant Welsh Food Christmas Farmers Market, Conwy Valley 29 November | Seasonal food shopping built around local producers, with a Welsh food farm shop on site. | There is also a separate Christmas Artisan Market on 13 December. |
Snowdonia Christmas Market, Betws-y-Coed 28–29 November | A smaller market focused on food and drink businesses from Eryri and the surrounding area. | Check the final trader list for particular products. |
Portmeirion Christmas Fair, Gwynedd 4–6 December | The organiser promotes Welsh produce, local food and drink, and handmade gifts across the village. | Admission tickets are sold on the day. |
Aberglasney Winter Fair, Carmarthenshire 4–6 December | A dedicated artisan food marquee, with regional producers offering festive treats and food gifts. | Useful if you want food shopping alongside crafts and garden visits. |
Pembroke Castle Christmas Market, Pembrokeshire 27–29 November | More than 80 stalls are advertised, including local produce, food and festive drinks. | Entry is free, but a free ticket must be booked in advance. |
Other places to browse for festive food
Cardiff Christmas Market runs from 12 November to 23 December and includes independent food and drink traders among its makers. However, individual stallholders take part on different dates, so use the organiser's exhibitor information if you are hoping to meet a particular Welsh business.
The National Botanic Garden of Wales Festive Fayre takes place on 28–29 November and has invited artisan food producers to participate. The final food trader list has not yet been confirmed, and the fayre is included with normal Garden admission.
For any market, look for the producer's business name and where the food or drink is actually made. Welsh-themed packaging does not necessarily mean the product was produced in Wales. You can browse the Local Welsh Food producer directory to discover Welsh businesses before your trip; it is a producer directory, not a confirmed list of stalls at these events.
What Welsh food should you look for?
Welsh Christmas markets can be a good place to find traditional bakes, everyday Welsh ingredients and modern artisan products made by independent businesses. The exact range depends on the traders at each event, so treat these as ideas for your shopping list, not a promise that every market will stock them.
Welsh cakes and bara brith
Welsh cakes are among the easiest local treats to take home or give as a small gift. Look for freshly griddled cakes, classic fruit-filled versions and variations from independent bakeries. Bara brith, the Welsh fruit loaf traditionally made with tea-soaked dried fruit, is another good choice for Christmas visits and sharing with family.
If you want to learn more about the dishes behind these names, see our guide to traditional Welsh food.
Welsh cheese
A selection of Welsh-made cheese can work well for a festive cheeseboard or an edible gift. Look for Caerphilly, mature hard cheeses, and cheeses made with cow's, sheep's or goat's milk by producers across Wales. Ask the seller how the cheese should be stored and how long it will keep, especially if you are buying ahead for Christmas.
For more varieties and makers, explore our Welsh cheese guide.
Chutneys, preserves and Welsh honey
Jams, marmalades, savoury chutneys, sauces and locally produced honey are practical gifts because many come in sealed jars and can be combined into a hamper. Check the maker's location and ingredient information rather than relying on a Welsh-themed label. A chutney from a Welsh producer can also make a useful partner for local cheese.
Chocolate, confectionery and sweet gifts
Handmade chocolates, truffles, fudge and other small-batch sweets are easy to share or add to a Christmas gift box. Markets often mix local makers with traders from further afield, so ask whether the treats are actually made by the business selling them if buying Welsh-made food is important to you.
Savoury food and products for the Christmas table
Depending on the event, food producers may bring pies, baked savouries, charcuterie, meat products or other ready-to-eat specialities. If you are shopping for Welsh lamb, beef or chilled foods, check whether these are available at the market and ask about safe transport and storage before buying.
Welsh cider, beer, gin and other drinks
Wales has independent cider makers, breweries and distilleries producing drinks that can make distinctive festive gifts. Where drinks traders are taking part, check the producer and place of production, and whether bottles are suitable for gifting or serving over Christmas. The availability of alcohol and tastings depends on the event and its traders.
Not visiting a market, or missed a particular producer? Our Welsh food gifts by post guide covers other ways to shop, though delivery options and Christmas order cut-offs should be checked with each seller.
Tips for visiting Welsh Christmas markets
A little planning makes it easier to find Welsh producers and enjoy the event itself. These practical checks are especially useful if you are travelling for a specific food stall or buying presents that need to last until Christmas.
Check dates, opening times and traders
Use the organiser's own 2026 event page shortly before you travel. A market may run for several days while individual sellers attend only part of it. At Cardiff Christmas Market (12 November–23 December), for example, exhibitors have their own trading dates. Check the current stallholder list if a particular producer is the reason for your visit.
Understand tickets and admission
Entry arrangements differ. Pembroke Castle Christmas Market (27–29 November) is free, but visitors must book a free ticket online in advance. Portmeirion Christmas Fair (4–6 December) sells its event admission tickets on the day rather than in advance. The National Botanic Garden Festive Fayre (28–29 November) is included with normal Garden admission, while the Royal Welsh Winter Fair (30 November–1 December) is a ticketed event. Always check the relevant booking page before setting off.
Plan your journey and access
Look up the exact venue entrance, parking arrangements and any shuttle or park-and-ride information rather than relying on the town name alone. Christmas events can occupy castle grounds, gardens or several streets, and access arrangements may vary. If step-free access, accessible parking or toilets are important for your visit, confirm them with the organiser.
Bring the right bags for food shopping
A reusable shopping bag is useful for jars, gifts and baked goods. If you hope to buy cheese, meat or other chilled products, bring an insulated bag and ask sellers about safe storage and how quickly the food should be refrigerated. Check use-by or best-before dates if the items are intended for Christmas Day or as gifts.
Ask before buying for someone else
Food stalls are a good opportunity to speak directly with makers about ingredients, allergens, storage and the story behind their products. For gift hampers, consider a mix of shelf-stable Welsh preserves, confectionery and drinks, then add perishable items only when you know how they can be kept and transported.
Finally, allow plans to change: dates and trader line-ups may still be updated after this guide is published. The official organiser links in each market listing above are the best place to confirm the latest arrangements.
Sources and event information
This guide draws on 2026 listings from official event organisers, regional tourism bodies and transport information providers. The main references are listed below; links to individual organisers are also included alongside each market in the guide. Event dates, admission rules and trader information may be updated, so the organiser’s latest page should be checked before travelling.
