Welsh food and drink took centre stage at Foodex Japan 2026 at Tokyo Big Sight, one of Asia’s largest and most influential food and drink exhibitions. The four-day event brought together 3,238 exhibitors from 76 countries, regions and unions, and recorded 73,842 registered visitors.

Supported by the Welsh Government, the Wales presence gave producers and brands a platform to meet buyers, distributors and retailers from Japan and explore new export opportunities.

Welsh businesses and brands at Foodex Japan

Wales was represented by Hybu Cig Cymru – Meat Promotion Wales (HCC) and Golden Road Gin, alongside Japanese importers Mint & Co and Hobgoblin. Mineichi and Beau 7 Bon donated products for display during the show.

Welsh brands showcased included Welsh Lady Preserves, Barti, Radnor Preserves, Gower Gin, Cradoc’s, Da Mhile, Wrexham Lager and Mydflower.

Welsh products on the stand

Visitors watched live cooking demonstrations led by Colin Gray and Nia Evans of the Culinary Association of Wales. Their menu highlighted the versatility of Welsh ingredients through dishes that combined Welsh products with Japanese flavours.

Building trade relationships in Japan

For Welsh producers, Foodex provided an opportunity to meet distributors and retailers from across Japan. Golden Road Gin used the visit to assess the market, meet distributors face to face and introduce its gin directly to Japanese buyers.

Ahead of the exhibition, Welsh companies also joined a pre-arranged meet-the-buyer event at the British Embassy. The delegation later took part in a Four Nations Reception in Tokyo, creating further opportunities for networking and market engagement.

Supporting export opportunities

The Welsh Government said the Foodex presence showed partnerships formed at Blas Cymru / Taste Wales developing internationally, with Welsh businesses and Japanese importers working together to bring products to new markets.
