Local Welsh Food launches Places directory featuring its picks of destinations across Wales

By Local Welsh Food Editorial Team

The new directory highlights Local Welsh Food’s selection of places to eat, shop, stay and experience Welsh food and drink. It is a curated collection of destinations worth discovering, rather than a comprehensive listing of every food business in Wales.

Local Welsh Food has launched Places, a new directory showcasing a curated selection of destinations across Wales where people can discover, buy and enjoy Welsh food and drink.

From farm shops and independent cafés to restaurants, farm-gate sales and cookery schools, the directory highlights places that Local Welsh Food believes are worth discovering. It also features destinations where food forms part of a wider experience, including selected campsites, glamping sites and cocktail bars.

Places extends Local Welsh Food’s existing coverage of Welsh food producers by focusing on where people can experience local food and drink. While producer profiles help readers discover the businesses making Welsh products, the new directory offers ideas for places to visit, things to try and ways to support food businesses around the country.

The directory is a curated selection, not an attempt to list every food business or destination in Wales. Its purpose is to highlight places that stand out and give readers a useful starting point for exploring Welsh food, whether they live locally, are planning a trip or simply want to discover somewhere new.

The directory is available at localwelshfood.com/places.

Places to eat, shop and explore

The directory covers a range of destinations connected with Welsh food and drink. Visitors can browse by category or county, or search by place, producer or town.

Categories include shops, cafés and parlours, restaurants, farm-gate sales and vending, cookery classes, cocktail bars, community shops, and camping and glamping.

That variety reflects the many ways people can engage with Welsh food. It might mean buying produce directly from a farm, visiting a shop specialising in local products, finding a café serving Welsh food, or booking a cookery class. For visitors exploring Wales, it can also mean choosing somewhere to stay that offers a connection with local food and drink.

The selection includes destinations in different parts of the country. Examples include Dylan’s restaurants in north Wales, Forage Farm Shop and Kitchen in Cowbridge, Tu Hwnt I’r Bont Tea Room in Llanrwst, and Y Sied Laeth’s farm-gate vending locations on the Llŷn Peninsula.

A monthly featured place provides another way for readers to discover individual destinations. The current selection is MamGu’s Kitchen in Saundersfoot, Pembrokeshire.

Connecting people with Welsh food businesses

Places builds on Local Welsh Food’s wider aim of helping people discover the businesses, products and destinations that make up Wales’s food culture.

For readers, the directory provides a starting point for finding somewhere to eat, shop or visit. It brings together different types of destination in one place, making it easier to explore options by location or interest.

For the businesses featured, inclusion offers another opportunity to reach people interested in Welsh food and drink. The directory also recognises that the experience of Welsh food extends beyond the people who produce it. Shops, cafés, restaurants and other destinations all have a role in connecting customers with local products and food traditions.

Places is now live and available to browse at localwelshfood.com/places.
