Wales’ largest-ever delegation to Gulfood is helping strengthen international opportunities for local food and drink businesses.

Welsh food and drink producers took centre stage at Gulfood 2026 in Dubai, with the country’s largest-ever delegation attending one of the world’s biggest annual food and beverage exhibitions, in January. Supported by Welsh Government, 19 Welsh companies participated in the event, showcasing products ranging from dairy and meat to speciality foods and beverages.
The exhibition provides direct access to buyers, distributors and international markets, particularly across the Middle East and North Africa region, which remains an increasingly valuable export destination for Welsh food businesses.
What is Gulfood?
Held annually in Dubai, Gulfood is widely regarded as one of the largest and most influential food trade exhibitions globally. The event attracts thousands of exhibitors and buyers from around the world, providing businesses with opportunities to build export relationships, explore new markets and strengthen international commercial networks. For Welsh producers, participation can help expand overseas growth while reinforcing Wales’ reputation for premium food and drink.
Why export opportunities matter
International expansion can provide important resilience for Welsh producers, particularly as domestic economic pressures and competition continue to evolve. Export growth may support job creation, rural communities and long-term sector investment, while helping producers diversify beyond UK markets. Government figures show Welsh food and drink exports have grown significantly in recent years, reflecting wider strategic efforts to position Wales as a globally competitive food- producing nation.
Welsh food’s growing global identity
Products from Wales are increasingly promoted through quality, sustainability and provenance, key factors in international premium food markets. From dairy and red meat to artisan goods, Welsh producers are using their regional identity as a competitive advantage while maintaining strong domestic roots.
Building long-term resilience for Welsh food businesses
As Wales continues to strengthen its international food profile, events like Gulfood may help secure new opportunities for producers while supporting broader economic growth. Global success can also reinforce domestic confidence in Welsh food, helping further elevate the profile of local producers at home and abroad.
