Historic Conwy event set for Saturday return
The organisers of the Conwy Honey Fair have confirmed that the 2026 event will take place on Saturday 12 September rather than its traditional weekday slot.
The change follows the success of a Saturday event in 2025 and has been approved by Conwy Town Council. Organisers hope the revised timing will allow more visitors to attend one of Wales’ oldest surviving fairs.
A tradition dating back more than 700 years
The Conwy Honey Fair traces its origins to a Royal Charter granted by Edward I in the 13th century and remains one of the most distinctive events in the Welsh food calendar.
Traditionally focused on honey trading and beekeeping, the fair has evolved into a wider celebration of local produce, crafts, plants and community food culture while retaining its historic links to Welsh beekeeping.
Supporting local producers and artisan food businesses
Modern versions of the Honey Fair include farmers’ market stalls, food producers, honey specialists and craft businesses operating within Conwy’s historic town walls.
These events provide important opportunities for small businesses to engage directly with visitors while promoting local food production and sustainable agriculture.
Interest in local honey and pollinator-friendly food systems has grown significantly in recent years, helping strengthen the fair’s relevance beyond its historical roots.
Food heritage remains a major tourism draw
Heritage food events continue to play a valuable role in Welsh tourism, combining local culture, food production and community identity.
The Honey Fair remains one of the clearest examples of how traditional food events can evolve while preserving their original purpose.
With the 2026 date now confirmed, organisers are expected to begin stallholder bookings during the summer.
